Wolfsburg’s Micky Vander Penn, 22, is set to don a Tottenham shirt.
The British media outlet ‘Daily Mail’ reported on Thursday (June 4) that “Vander Penn has agreed a transfer fee of 43 million pounds ($71.6 billion won). He will fly to London this weekend for a medical with Tottenham and will sign a five-year contract,” the Mail reported.
“메이저놀이터Van der Vaart has enjoyed a successful season with Wolfsburg, attracting interest from a number of European clubs. However, Tottenham were successful in securing his signature.”
“He will join Tottenham’s Cristian Romero as a key part of the defense.”
Mickey van der Vaart is close to joining Tottenham.
Playing for Wolfsburg since the 2021-22 season, Van der Vaart is a physically and athletically gifted center back. His blistering pace makes him one of the team’s best runners. In total, he scored one goal and provided two assists in 36 games in the 2022-23 season. He started all 33 Bundesliga games.
When defending, his quick feet and physicality mean he doesn’t give up space easily, and his reading of the defense is excellent. He is also a reliable passer of the ball from the back. He has been dubbed the “next Van Dijk” due to his similarities to Dutchman Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool).
He’s also a rare left-footed center back. He has the versatility to play in the center of defense as well as on the left flank. Bayern Munich and Liverpool were also interested in him, but he preferred to join Tottenham.
The Daily Mail reported that “manager Enzi Postecoglou has made a central defender who can read the left side of the pitch a top priority” and that “Spurs are working to meet the new manager’s demands”.
In the end, it looks like Spurs have finalized a five-year, £43 million deal for Van der Vaart. If he passes his medical, he is expected to join the team immediately.
Meanwhile, Spurs have made three other new signings this summer: midfielder James Maddison, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, and winger Manor Solomon.
