The Pirates snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Cubs. Pittsburgh held on to its first-inning lead.

With runners on second and third, Andrew McCutchen hit a grounder to third that scored pinch-hitter Keebrian Hayes. The run came right back.

Joshua Palacios walked, and a fielder’s choice by the Cubs defense allowed Brian Reynolds, who was at third base, to come home for a 2-0 lead. In his first at-bat of the inning, Bae reached first on a grounder to second, but leadoff hitter Connor Cho was thrown out at second base to end the inning.

In his second at-bat with the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Bae grounded out to the pitcher, and in his third at-bat in the sixth inning, he grounded out to first base.

Mike Tuckman (Cubs), a familiar face to Korean fans from his time with the Hanwha Eagles, was named to the starting lineup as the center fielder and leadoff hitter, but went 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout.

The Cubs were down 0-2 in the top of the ninth when leadoff hitter Ian Happ hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to 1-2. But Pittsburgh closer David Bednar didn’t allow any more runs and preserved his team’s victory.

He earned his 28th save of the season to improve to 3-2. Mitch Keller earned the win on the mound, tossing eight innings of four-hit ball with one walk and six strikeouts. Keller improved to 11-8 on the season.
