‘Final B crisis’ Jeonbuk says momentum is key…Bangkok game a chance to turn the tide

Bangkok United is a chance for Jeonbuk Hyundai to turn things around.

캡틴토토Jeonbuk Hyundai will face Bangkok United in the second leg of their 2023-24 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Champions League (ACL) Group F match at Thammasat Stadium in Pathum Thani, Thailand on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET. Currently, Jeonbuk and Bangkok are tied on three points.

Jeonbuk will be looking to turn things around in this match. In their previous match, a 1-3 loss at home to Daegu FC in League Round 32, Jeonbuk was unable to carry over the momentum from their victory over Gwangju FC. The home defeat, which included a goal in the 15th minute, left Jeonbuk with a dead pool.

The disappointment of the performance makes it even harder for Jeonbuk. Jeonbuk parted ways with head coach Kim Sang-sik at the beginning of the season and appointed Dan Petrescu. Petrescu seemed to bring ‘dakgong’ back to Jeonbuk based on the bold football, but recently, there is no clear color or sharpness, only a ‘straight look’.

Recalling the memories of the Kitchee match. Jeonbuk was winless in the league for five games when they played their first group game against Kitchee. Luckily, they were able to turn things around with a win against Kitchee and carried that momentum into the match against Gwangju. Regardless of the performance, Jeonbuk had to be satisfied with the three points, as they needed them immediately.

This is because Jeonbuk is in danger of dropping down to Final B. Jeonbuk currently has 46 points. Their fate depends on the outcome of their final match of the regular round against FC Seoul. If they win, they’ll move up to Final A, but if they lose, they’ll be heading to Final B for the first time in their history. As we approach the end of the season, Jeonbuk is more concerned with the immediate outcome.

Jeonbuk is currently missing players like Baek Seung-ho, Park Jin-seop, and Park Jae-yong for the Asian Games, which has put a lot of physical pressure on the remaining players. In addition, the team will be traveling to Southeast Asia for the Bangkok match, which will make it even more difficult. Nevertheless, Jeonbuk must focus on this match and win. They need to win in Bangkok to lift their spirits and carry that momentum into Seoul.
