A legendary coach leaves the team. Before the end of the season, he said goodbye in advance.
Liverpool released an interview with Jürgen Klopp (57) through its official channel on Wednesday (Korea time). Klopp will leave Liverpool after the 2023-2024 season.
In an interview with the official channel, Klopp said, “I will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. Many people will be shocked. I can explain it enough so that they can understand it,” adding, “I absolutely love everything in Liverpool. The same goes for the city, the supporters and the team staff. But now is the time to leave the team. I will not take charge of other teams in England 100 percent.”
It was a decision for the team. “What should I say? I feel like I am running out of energy now. I have known for a long time that I have to announce this news. Liverpool cannot be a coach forever. I still have great respect for all the time I spent with Liverpool and the memories I had,” Klopp said.
He is a great leader who led the golden age of Liverpool in the 21st century. Taking the helm in 2015, Klopp gave Liverpool numerous championships. Liverpool asked a question, “I am okay. I am healthy for my age. Don’t you need to worry. I already told Liverpool in November last year. The public knows what I am doing. When the season starts, I already plan for the next season. At some point, I thought, ‘I don’t know if I will be here even then’. I was surprised myself.”
Although his team was sluggish last season, Klopp put Liverpool back on track. He is in contention to win the 2023-2024 English Premier League. “There were definitely moments when the game against Liverpool could end. But that didn’t happen. It was very important that we were given time to normalize Liverpool again,” Klopp said.마카오토토
He also explained why he suddenly announced his breakup. “It would have been ideal to leave the team after winning several competitions and finishing the season. However, keeping such news a secret is impossible in today’s world. Liverpool members should know this in advance. That way, they can plan for the future. Liverpool needed time,” he said. “Over the years, my role in Liverpool only grew significantly. I didn’t mean it, but I did. Now I am leaving the team for the third time in my leadership career. I really didn’t want to, but I have to. It’s better to make such a decision early than late.”
The intention was to give the club time to fully consider the next coach’s concerns. It was a choice that was made with Liverpool in mind. “We have a great foundation with Liverpool for several years,” Klopp said. “What can hinder this is when we cannot make the right decision due to lack of time. It was important to let people know about my decision as soon as possible.”
The current season has just passed. Liverpool is competing to win the Premier League, the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and the UEFA Europa League. Liverpool questioned whether it would have any negative impact on the rest of the season. “I totally understand the question. It is a situation that Liverpool faced,” Kloop said. “A similar situation happened during the Borussia Dortmund era. We will hold a press conference after the announcement this time. Liverpool can achieve another championship. If the ideal season is held, it will have about 30 more matches. By other national standards, the number of matches is equivalent to that of a season. There may be external disturbances, but it is all up to Liverpool.”
Klopp has led Liverpool for more than eight years. There have been many changes in the team’s lineup, and the team has clambered to the top in England, Europe and the world. “The way Liverpool has grown over the past few years has been very special. That’s the case even when I look at other clubs,” Klopp said. “Nothing should happen just when I leave the team. Over the past few months, no one has realized the difference between Liverpool. After deciding to leave the team, it felt like I was on the finish line.”
I thought it was time to take a break. “Liverpool always wants to display its best performance. I am sure that it will be okay as long as it is with the team and the supporters,” Klopp said. “I am still an ordinary person. But I did not live a normal life for too long. When I return to normal life, I wish I did not get too old. I have never actually done it yet. I have to give it a try. Now is the right time. I can’t start working from next year. It is perfect timing for Liverpool, too.”
Employees of the club respected his coach’s wishes after years of experience. “We had good relations over the years. We explained enough to the staff. We already knew each other well. The club officials also accepted my opinion,” Klopp said. “No one has to worry about my mindset. It was a difficult decision, but I think it would be great if you could accept that it was the right thing to do. I love all members of Liverpool, but I think it is right to leave the team.”
“If someone had asked me to take charge of Liverpool 10 years ago, I would have jumped over the high wall myself,” Klopp said. “But I have been a leader for 24 years now. It is time to look into what real life is. I don’t know yet. We need to find out before it is too late. It is time to try.”
It was a workaholic in itself. For a while, Klopp’s whole life was Liverpool.
